Dear Middle School Families, We need your help! Your voice matters, and we want to hear from you! As part of our GEAR UP program, we are asking all middle school families to take a few minutes to complete our GEAR UP Survey. Your feedback helps us understand how GEAR UP is making a difference for our students and families and how we can continue providing meaningful opportunities and support. Through GEAR UP, our middle school students have experienced exciting opportunities that encourage them to explore new interests, discover their talents, and begin thinking about their futures. STEM Activities: Participating in hands-on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics activities that encourage curiosity, creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Educational Field Trips: Connecting classroom learning to real-world experiences through visits that explore history, science, careers, and the world around them. Tutor.com: Accessing additional academic support and tutoring to strengthen skills, build confidence, and improve academic success. Educational Support: Building the knowledge, skills, and confidence students need to succeed in middle school and prepare for high school and beyond. Family Financial Aid Resources: Helping families learn about financial aid opportunities and begin understanding the resources available to make college more affordable. GEAR UP is about more than activities and field trips. It is about helping students recognize their potential, explore future possibilities, and giving families the information and resources they need to support their children's success. Good evening, this is Mr. Byland from East Yancey with a few important announcements, There is a 8th grade dance meeting on Monday at 5pm in the cafeteria. Any parents interested in helping with the dance, please come on out. Sports Section: Basketball is at home Monday and at Cranberry on Thursday. Wrestling is at home both Monday and Thursday. Good evening, this is Mr. Byland from East Yancey with a few important announcements, For the national anti-drug awareness Red Ribbon Week, we will have a spirit week: Monday: Lei off Drugs (Hawaiian Themed Dress Up), Tuesday: Team Up to Fight Drug Use (Wear team sportswear), Wednesday: Don’t Let Drugs Ruin Your Dreams (Wear Pajamas), Thursday: Switch Your Mindset About Drugs (Students dress like teachers), Friday: Scare Away Bad Choices (Halloween costume day). We will have a social on Friday in the afternoon to cap off the week. Bus 151 will not run in the morning or afternoon. Good evening, this is Mr. Byland from East Yancey with a few important announcements, EY will have a bake sale and car wash on Saturday Oct 17th as a fundraiser for our trip from 10am-1pm. Students can sign up to serve via their emails. Please come out and get your car washed for $10 and buy yourself a nice cookie. The first Charleston Trip deposit is due Oct 20 for $150 for students and any parent that is attending. We will have an earthquake drill on Thursday. Please send in any final chocolate money. Our focus this month for students is Trustworthiness. Here is an activity you can do at home to support this character trait. Any time a family member demonstrates trust or sees another family do so, write it down and put it in a Trust Jar.On Saturday, read all of the ways your family showed trust this week and discuss why trust is important to your family.
